After receiving so many great questions on Instagram the other day, I thought I would create a post where you can always access them! Below are a few of my most frequently asked questions, enjoy!
Q: How long have you been a makeup artist?
A: Since 2003! And I have been specifically focusing on kids for the past eight years.
Q: Why kids makeup?
A: I had originally set out to be a makeup artist in beauty and fashion. When I got hired to do makeup for my first kids photo shoot, I found it easy to relate to kids and teens, and enjoyed working with them. I was always drawn to the kind of makeup which enhances, rather than transforms someone’s features. Kids are the perfect canvas for this type of makeup because they have a natural radiance, and smooth skin. This allows me to focus on the details, such as creating a wash of color on the cheeks, highlighting the skin, and defining eyebrows and lashes.
Q: What are your favorite products right now?
A: Since we are in the middle of winter, my absolute must have is Beautycounter Lip Conditioner in Calendula. I’m absolutely loving Kosas Cosmetics tinted face oils as well as their lip oils. “Jellyfish” is one of my favorites. For print work, I am using more theatrical products such as Cinema Secrets foundation and Ben Nye cream blushes. I also have my drugstore favorites, such as CeraVe Healing Ointment, Maybelline cream eyeshadow color tattoo, L’Oreal Brow stylist, and L’Oreal Voluminous mascara.
Q: Are you available to do makeup for events or just photoshoots?
A: Definitely available for select events! Just send me a DM or email about the dates!
Q:Tips for keeping your skin hydrated in the winter months?
A: I actually wrote a separate blog post about this! You can check it out here
Q: Suggestions for teen models struggling with acne?
A: Before you do anything on your own, see a dermatologist!! There are so many products and programs out there, it is important to figure out what your child needs individually. It is helpful to keep a skin diary to record which foods/products cause a sensitivity reaction. Always let the makeup artist know ahead of time if your child has allergies or sensitivities to specific ingredients.
Q: How often should I clean my makeup brushes?
A: There are a few different answers for this.
A: Beauty blenders I think should be cleaned everyday- the moistness is a breeding ground for bacteria, so make sure to squeeze it out and let it dry in open air!
Any brushes for applying creams should be cleaned at least every other day- better application and also bacteria breeds here as well.
Powder brushes should be cleaned once a week.
Q: Do I really need to be using a primer?
A: Not necessarily- However if you have large pores or textured skin, a primer can definitely help minimize the appearance.
Q: How do I go about putting lipstick on chapped lips?
A: You have to start from scratch - take a damp, warm washcloth to remove the flakes and immediately apply a lip balm-- if the lipstick is too thick make sure you blot it. Lip gloss can be a better option if your lips are not cooperating.
Q: How do I get the dewy skin look?
A: All about skin prep- a good moisturizer and a few drops of face oil is a good start. Preferably use a cream or liquid foundation and you can use cream/liquid highlight on the cheek bones! Try not to use face powder except for forehead/ nose when really needed!
Q: What is a product you’ve been loyal to/ used for years?
A: Cinema Secrets Foundation. I started working with this when I started in print and have gone back to it time after time because of the coverage and texture it gives on the skin!
I hope these answers were helpful for you guys! As always, feel free to send me any additional questions you may have! :)
